Our Story

"A Venezuelan and an American walk into a bar..."

It sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but it happens to be where our love story began.

Well, I guess it actually started a few days before, when Suze “hearted” me on Hinge (back when it was cool, OKAY!). Please note: not even a message. Just a heart.

Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to talk to this cute, feisty-looking woman and messaged her right away. We chatted for a few days before Suze presented me with an ultimatum:

She was leaving for Florida for three weeks, so we could either meet that Sunday (which happened to be the Sunday of my birthday weekend) or risk letting the match fade away.

Well, I couldn't let that happen. So I asked Allison (my best friend and roommate at the time) to push pause on our 8th or 9th Love Island episode of the day, and dragged myself to a neighborhood bar to meet Suze at a sharp three o’clock in the afternoon.

It's possible I was late (first and last time of our relationship), but we spent the next 8 or so hours together, bar hopping and having an absolute blast.

We survived her three-week trip to Florida. And the rest is history.

Since then, Suze and I have been to countless concerts. We've chased every dance floor across the 5 boroughs and beyond. We’ve traveled to places I never imagined I'd be lucky enough to see, and have created memories I once only dreamed about. We've also become Mothers to the greatest gift on earth... our fur baby, Mateo. But perhaps my favorite part of all is that an ordinary night at home with Suze and Mateo can feel just as magical as any of it.

Suze and I have created a life full of fun, love, respect, openness... and lots of disco balls.

I still pinch myself I found you — and can’t wait to marry you, Suze!

No one ever tells you about the day your life will change forever, the day a person walks into your life (a little late, a little hungover, a little frazzled)… so hot that you have to look away to collect yourself a little bit.

I still remember the exact moment Megan walked through the door of that spiked kombucha place. I found myself sitting a little straighter, putting my usual guard up, and trying all my usual dating tricks, but this time was different… We started talking, telling each other about our weekends and adventures, and I found myself really liking this woman. I didn't need to do the whole dating dance. We were just having a ton of uncomplicated fun. It felt as if we had known each other forever, but in reality it had only been two hours…

One bar became two, and two hours became eight. Before I knew it, we had spent all Sunday together "bopping around," talking, connecting, and just having a good old time!

During that day, I found out what you all already know: Megan is the most adventurous, kind, generous, vibrant, dynamic, selfless, and fun person you'll ever meet.

I would like to say that after that day I knew I had met the greatest love of my life, but I didn't, because our love is not only about that day. It is about the weeks that followed when I went to Florida, and about how we have shown up for each other ever since. That's what has brought us to today, to this incredible celebration in Mérida. It is about all the other times we continued to show up for each other: sometimes late, sometimes on time, sometimes at our best and at our worst. I am so lucky that we get to show up for each other one more time at our wedding, and I am so happy and thankful I get to share it with you.
